How to Maintain Focus

Wednesday, 12 August 2015. Dee Marshall

blocks-spelling-focus-falling-over-as-symbol-for-lack-of-concentration zykagspdWhen we’re on the path to winning and living the yummy life we’ve dreamed of, we often get sidetracked.

The things some people are sidetracked by like family drama, gossip, keeping up with the latest headlines, reports of incoming storms or inclement weather, serial killer on the loose, etc. are not the things that throw us off course.

No, those things don’t get in our way. What gets in our way are the bright and shiny objects.

Have you ever taken a child to Target with you just to grab a bag of cotton balls?

On the way to the cotton balls there is this really sticky section called the dollar spot. It is filled with bright, shiny, neon, or polka dot goodies that the child will naturally gravitate toward.

We do the same thing while working toward our goals.

But here is THE MAGIC WORD to avoid succumbing to

temptation and becoming Unfocused Hoarder of the Year:

NO.

Whatever our goals, the bright and shiny objects begin to show up just as we are about to reach a turning point. They even look like they are there to help!  A well-meaning auntie, perhaps the one who argues with your mom about the turkey will tell you her student needs voice coaching lessons. Having studied at Julliard, you see an opportunity to share your knowledge and as an artiste, of course, you’re short of cash this month. But nowhere in your list of things to do as an aspiring songwriter is there a slot for coaching teens.

If you have not done all you possibly could to get to your destination, then the answer to all inquiries and suggestions about anything outside of propelling you forward in achieving your goal and honing your craft is no.  (SIDEBAR: No is a complete sentence.)

And that is how you maintain focus in this noisy world. It’s not easy, but it is entirely within your super powers.  Say NO to distractions and say YES to focus.

What's in Your Wallet?

Thursday, 23 July 2015. Dee Marshall

There used to be this commercial for a popular credit card company where this actor would say no to every request this customer had. Then at the end he would ask “What's in Your Wallet“?

The premise was that if you had this card in your wallet, it would bail you out of unfortunate situations and you wouldn’t have to call into your (less helpful, less customer-friendly) credit card company, only to get your claims and issues denied.

My question for you today is this...

What's in your wallet? And will the contents of your wallet get you out of a pinch or better yet, prevent it?!

  • The proper ID? Are you who you say you are?  Some of us are carrying around fake ID! We don't know who we are and we'll compromise our value, values (yes, they are two different things) morals, and integrity to move forward or get by unscathed.

  • Cards with available credit?
  • Old receipts crowding the billfold? Or is it clear to hold current monies and incoming cash flow? Are you holding onto past issues after the thirty day return policy has expired?  Or have you shredded them and made room for new purchases and experiences?

It's often said that how we show up in one area of our lives is how we show up in most or all. So today, check your wallet. Find out today if what's inside matches up with who you are on the outside and if the contents of your wallet will either help or harm you in your daily life - and in case of an emergency.

Win, Rock, & Rule 2015

Tuesday, 24 March 2015. Dee Marshall

Press Release:

In Celebration of Women’s History Month Dee Marshall Empowers Jersey Women to Win, Rock, Rule:

Coach, Author, TV Personality and Essence Contributor Dee Marshall will host an elite sector of powerful women in Government, Corporate, Media, Law Enforcement, Money, Careers, Entrepreneurs and Ministry.  The event will take place 4:00 pm on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at the Renaissance Woodbridge Hotel.

Five Years ago Dee Marshall held a press conference on Capitol Hill to announce an initiative to reach 1 million, as part of her efforts she has host several women’s empowerment events and she is the founder of  Girlfriends Pray, a non-profit organization that reaches thousands of women daily.  In celebration of Women’s History month the Win, Rock& Rule networking event will take place thanks to the support of sponsors The Prudential Insurance Company of America and Barnabas Health.

Win, Rock & Rule networking event was created as an opportunity to showcase and support professional women in New Jersey with their career and life goals. The theme for 2015 is “Where Access Meets Opportunity,” it’s intended to give women access to women leaders across industries without all the red tape and politics that often prevent some from getting to others in hi-places.

Attendees will have face to face interaction with women that have paved the way to success here in New Jersey,” says New Jersey native Dee Marshall.  Guest speakers will give attendees insight on media exposure, entrepreneurship, up leveling their career and growing their business.  All of the speakers are “Jersey Women”; leaders and authorities in their respective fields including the F.O. women, which is the term Marshall coined to identify those trailblazers who are first and only women in their respective role, title, position or field.

Kicking off the event is a F.O. Woman  (First and Only) Mayor Dana Redd, Camden, NJ, following is a host of other powerful women   including Tiffany “The Budgetnista” Aliche (Best Selling Author and Financial Educator), Nikki Kimbrough (Get Fit with Nik), Kellie LeDet (Presidential Appointed Regional Administrator, U.S. Small Business Association), Barbara Mintz (VP of Healthy Living & Community Engagement, Barnabas), Maddie S. Brooks (Prudential Insurance Company of America), and closing with Michellene Davis, Esq. EVP of Corporate Affairs, Barnabas Health, another F.O. woman who has many F.O. titles in her career.

Dee Marshall started empowering women a few years ago through events like Win, Rock & Rule and Women Raising The Bar.  As a Life Coach and a leader in her field she understands the importance of mentoring and networking having survived September 11th as a young Wall Street executive only to be mentored and networked her way from a television show, to international speaking and media spotlight to The White House. She is not afraid to share how she has become so successful and this event gives others who are the first and only in their field the opportunity to share with others how to obtain success as well.  The event gives attendees opportunity to touch and talk to people they may not have the access or opportunity to meet.  “Dee Marshall is one of the most amazing, inspiring, energetic, exuberant women out there, she is so authentic and you leave so inspired and ready to take on the world,” says Janice Kovah, Former Director NJ Division on Women.  The event has limited seating so everyone has the opportunity to spend quality time networking with attendees as well as panelist.
